About This Bass Banjo

This Double bass banjo is played exactly like an upright acoustic bass, uses standard double bass strings and has a conventional double bass style fingerboard (3/4 scale). Physically lighter than most acoustic basses and is able to be packed down in to a suitcase for airline travel, this really is a viable way to travel with an acoustic upright.

And the one I am selling (seen in photos) is custom made by Alan Hatwell, of Bassix, and is the very first off a brand new production line and therefore highly collectible!

You probably know already but gigging with a double bass can be wonderful in principle, but fraught in the extreme in practice. Many fine old basses get dinged and clouted over the years and wear their scars of battle with honour. Actually heaving one around, and trying to amplify it is another matter altogether. The problems of feedback and the choice of a suitable pickup and sound are another thing. This is all taken care of with this amazing Double Bass Banjo.

This Bass Banjo also comes fitted with Schaller Contra Bass pickups

The pickup is fitted to the instrument with two small screws on each side. You can adjust the spacing to fit your instrument using the two sliding brackets.

The increased interest in acoustic instruments has prompted the creation of a hybrid combining an acoustic double bass style neck and an oversize banjo type resonant drum. The result produces higher volume than a standard double bass with prominent undertones akin to a mellow vintage bass. The sound projection is also increased and a clear tone is evident across the whole range of the instrument.

This instrument will suit acoustic, folk, cajun & bluegrass style bass players.
